We will brief you with these raw materials used to produce the ceramic & porcelain tile from India. In a sense, this stays the same for ceramic and porcelain tile produced around the world.
The raw materials which goes into the production of ceramic and porcelain tile from india can be divided into two main categories :
1. Raw Material of Tile Body
The Raw Material of the Ceramic & Porcelain Tile from India consist of China Clay mainly. The Clay used for the tile production consists of Alumina and Silica content in it. The Porcelain Tile is made mainly of Kaolin, feldspar and quartz. The Clay used for the tile production in India comes from the Rajasthan State and also Kutch District of Gujarat state in India.
The mixture of Clays, Feldspar, Quartz & Marble - Granite Slurry are mixed and grinded together in the Ball Mill Machine and the slurry is kept in an underground mixer with proper chemical addition to bind the materials. This slurry is turned into powder form with the spray dryer technique.
This raw material is then fed into the press to produce the biscuit tile.
2. Raw Material of Tile Surface
Once the biscuit tile is pressed and the moisture is reduced by passing it through the dryer machine, this biscuit tile goes through different surface applications as per the type of tile. For the glazed Porcelain and Ceramic tile from India, the tile has to pass through the frit & glaze as per the surface. For example, if the tile is going to be polished, it has separate glaze and if the tile is with a matt surface then it has separate glaze.
Frit & Glaze are used to flux the unglazed biscuit tile with the ink. It is used to decorate or/and waterproof the tile. It serves to maintain the color on the surface.
