OSLO CHARCOAL CLOUD_HR Large

Today we are going to give you an easy-to-understand guide on the most popular flooring material in the entire world right now i.e. Ceramic & Porcelain tiles!

For ages, the most popular flooring material used to be natural wood or natural marble, or natural stones but that has been changed by the rapid growth of the ceramic & porcelain tile industry in recent times, and for a good reason! Ceramic & Porcelain tile has multiple advantages over traditional flooring materials and you should choose ceramic tile for your home or office flooring. At the end of this article, you will understand why.

First, we need to understand what is ceramic & porcelain tiles.

In general, all ceramic & porcelain tiles are made of a bunch of natural ingredients, which are mixed together and pressed into a tile which later are printed and baked to give the final tile for your houses & offices. However, there is a minor difference between ceramic & porcelain tile which is the strength of porcelain tile is much higher than ceramic tile and the water penetration capacity is very less in porcelain tile in comparison to ceramic tile.

99% process of tile production is the same for every single tile which is produced but the 1% change makes every tile different. However, that 1% changes everything. It could be the change in the size of a tile, the design of a tile, or the body of the tile.

It can be a little confusing, so stay tuned to understand how every tile is different. We can divide all the tiles on the basis of three factors:

1. Size of a Tile

Ceramic & Porcelain tile comes from the size of your fingertip to the height of the tallest person in this world (actually, even more!) Popular small-format tiles include ceramic subway tiles and porcelain mosaics. Medium format tile includes sizes that you most commonly see around you such as 60x60cm, 30x60cm, and 20x120cm. Large format tiles can be of dimensions up to 1mtr x 3mtr.

Fun fact: You can get the exact print on a smaller size up to a large size. So basically the dimensions are changed but the rest of the production processes are the same.

2. Look of a Tile

Basically, everything and anything you can imagine can be printed on a tile nowadays. However, the most popular looks in the ceramic & porcelain tiles are the marble look, onyx look, natural stone look, wood look, metal look & cement look

As per the design of a tile, the surface can be adjusted. For example, to replicate the polished natural marble, you can get a polished marble look ceramic tile or you can get a natural wood-like feel by the use of a wood-like texture on the surface of wood look ceramic tile.

3. Body of a Tile

This is probably the most boring or technical way to differentiate ceramic and porcelain tiles.

In ceramic tile, the body can either be a red body or a white body depending on the region where the raw material is sourced from. In general, white body ceramic tiles are considered of better quality because of getting better witness results on the top of a tile.

In porcelain tile, the body can be a normal body or color body or a full-body porcelain tile. Normally for the tiles with graphics or for residential applications, a normal body is sufficient. However, for high-traffic areas such as shopping malls, airports, and office space, a full-body tile is recommended. Also, a full-body tile can be more suitable for outdoor space applications than a normal body tile.

Hope you understand what are ceramic and porcelain tiles and the different types of tiles available in the market right now. However, you might be wondering why to choose ceramic & porcelain tile over natural marble or natural wood. It could be an entirely different video but the main advantages of ceramic and porcelain tiles are :
